Austrian outing this weekend, sixth round of FR 3.5 Series
The sixth round of the World Series by Renault headlining championship, Formula Renault 3.5 Series, stops at the Red Bull Ring in Austria this weekend with Jazeman Jaafar racing in his PETRONAS-liveried Carlin car. After an unfruitful outing earlier this month in Moscow, Jazeman is eager to demonstrate his racing talent and score valuable championship points this time.
Red Bull Ring is a circuit which Jazeman excelled at last season, his first visit to the track, when he scored three top ten finishes in the Euro F3 Series including a third place podium. The facility, which until recently hosted Formula 1 Championship races, proved to suit the young Malaysian, with him running consistently in the top ten throughout that weekend.
Returning to the Austrian circuit, this time in his first season of the Formula Renault 3.5 Series, Jazeman is hoping to build on his experience from last year and put in a strong performance. He says, “I have good memories of my first visit when racing in the Euro F3 Series and having some knowledge of the track is a good starting point for the weekend. Racing a bigger, more powerful car will bring a different challenge, so it is only the familiarity of the configuration of the track which I take with me.
He continues, “I’ll be developing the car set up with my engineers from the data they have, however it is the first time that the World Series has been at this track since 2005, and much has changed in the intervening years, so we will be looking to dial in the car to the track pretty quickly so that I can then concentrate on finding the speed during the qualifying sessions. A good qualifying position is always the first goal, then I can focus on the racing.
“I’ve been on the Carlin simulator in preparation for the event, but there is only so much this can help you,” adds Jazeman. “It will great to be back in the car as it’s been a long few weeks since Moscow and it is really the best place for me to be, as racing is so much of my life.”
