The famed Eau Rouge section is a true test of a driving ability with its complex series of curves and a blind exit over the brow of a hill, ideally taken at full throttle in top gear.
PETRONAS-supported Jazeman heads to Spa lying fourth in the British F3 championship and eighth in the FIA F3 Trophy Series. In British F3 Jazeman is one of five drivers bidding for a championship top-three slot who are separated by just 29 points with 12 races remaining.
Jazeman says of the weekend ahead, “This is going to be a big weekend for me, with two of my races not only being British F3 rounds, but are also in the FIA F3 Trophy series. It does add to the pressure, but it also gives me extra impetus to do well. I have raced in Spa once in Formula BMW and once in Formula 3. I’ve learned a huge amount back then and I’m hoping to be able to put this experience to good use at the weekend.
“The track offers everything you want – fast sweeping corners, quick elevation changes, chicanes, technically difficult corners and long straights with plenty of overtaking opportunities – but it’s not easy to get it right, particularly over a lap of just under four and a half miles. We lost a bit of ground last time out, so we need to bounce back with some strong finishes. With the additional F3 Trophy competitors there is due to be a field of 29 cars, so the racing is bound to be close, tough and very exciting.”
The Carlin driver adds, “I think this race weekend will be very adrenalin-fuelled, as I’m very pumped up for a good outing in Belgium. With a large grid, the British F3 championship fight hotting up, as well as two of the F3 Trophy’s eight races being part of the weekend, I’m being very focused and keeping calm before what will be a very hectic time at Spa I reckon.”
The F3 races will support the 24 Hours of Spa race, so the weekend timetable starts on Thursday for this event. The first practice session will take place from 10.45 – 11.30 and the second session from 16.00 – 16.45. Qualifying will be on Friday morning from 09.50 – 10.20, with the first race in the afternoon starting at 13.50, and the second race later in the day at 17.25. The final race, the Feature race of the weekend will be on Saturday at 12.40, with viewers in Europe able to watch this live on Motors TV.
One race weekend, two championships for Jazeman at Spa
