Leading the way to Brands Hatch this weekend

Championship leader, Jazeman Jaafar, will be back out on track this weekend for the fifth round of the British F3 International Series at Brands Hatch in Kent. This classic race circuit, loved by drivers and fans alike, promises to deliver three exciting, action-filled F3 races and Jaafar plans to be out front again, continuing his impressive form. The PETRONAS Talent Programme driver has finished in the top six in every race this season and has been on the podium on six occasions so far, including two wins. As the series reaches the halfway stage at Brands Hatch, Jaafar lies at the top of the Drivers’ Championship, 13 points ahead of second placed driver, Jack Harvey and 20 points in front of third placed man, Carlos Sainz.

Jazeman has high expectations for the weekend ahead saying, “I’ve upped my game this season, which I can attribute to a number of factors: more experience, increasing my fitness, improving my mind conditioning and building my self-confidence.  The team around me at Carlin is also very stable and that has helped too, so all in all I’m in excellent shape and anticipating another strong weekend. “I’ve already raced at Brands this season, running in the F3 Euro Series, but that was on the Indy layout, which is a very short lap. I had my second win of the season there, so I have good memories from that and I expect this recent experience to be a small advantage when we start out this weekend.” The series will be running on the Grand Prix layout of the Brands Hatch circuit, a classic configuration which is a favourite of drivers and spectators alike. Jaafar is a fan of the track, explaining, “The circuit has so many different challenges to it with such a variety of corners, high and low speed sections, changes of camber and undulations, that you need to get every part of it absolutely right to get the best lap time.” “Having taken back the championship lead at the last round, I have no intentions of letting it go,” says the 19-year old Malaysian driver. “Three or four guys behind me are threats and my biggest rivals are two of my team mates, Jack and Carlos, so I’m expecting some very close racing, particularly as we head off the line to the first corner at Paddock Hill Bend. Getting a good start is always the goal, as is a good qualifying position, particularly at Brands Hatch, where the grid is just before the uphill section heading into Paddock Hill.” Jazeman’s weekend starts on Friday 22nd June with two practice sessions, then continues with qualifying and the first of the three races on Saturday 23rd June. The final two races take place on Sunday 24th June. Follow the races on the live timing at www.tsl-timing.com
