Jazeman on the pace again at Rockingham
Jazeman Jaafar, the leading young Malaysian international race driver, enjoyed a strong test at Rockingham Motor Speedway in Corby this week, as he continued his preparations for the British F3 International Series, which begins next month. Finishing both days of running fourth quickest, the PETRONAS-supported driver is pleased with the progress he has made in testing so far.
The field of British F3 drivers took to a new configuration of track layout at the Rockingham circuit to build experience of the new Dallara British F3 car and prepare for the ten round series ahead. Jaafar, racing for the championship-winning team, Carlin, is entering his third season at this level of race series and showed his pace and performance is strong.
Jazeman says of his pace at the test this week, “I’m pleased with the level of performance we showed this week. I had a good solid start last week at Snetterton and have continued to show that I’m on top form and consistently one of the top four runners. We’ve had a very productive two days, putting more mileage on the car and learning more and more about this new car, working on our set ups, particularly for this track as we’ll return here in May for the fourth round of the championship.
“My team mates are my biggest rivals, as they are also very quick and we’ve been squabbling over the quickest time in each session. There has only been a few tenths in it each time, so we’re all very close in our pace. Of course, we can’t discount the other teams as I’m sure they are also going to be in the mix when we get to the first race at Oulton Park in early April.”
Pre-season preparations continue for Jaafar next week, with the traditional British F3 Media Day event, this year being held at Silverstone circuit, home of the Formula 1 British Grand Prix. The day will include a half day test session as well as time for the media to spend time with the field of drivers learning more about their aspirations for the championship ahead.
Jaafar says, “Media day is very demanding as you have to balance the needs of the media – photography, filming and interivews – with the on-track work which is so valuable when you have limited opportunities at the circuits which we race on. I enjoy the day though; it starts to build the buzz around the series and you know you are close to starting the season. I also love driving the Silverstone circuit, as it’s wide, fast and a real challenge. “
The British F3 International Series Media Day takes place on 21st March, and is followed by further testing on the following day.
